Charli XCX’s pop star ranking is truly shocking

Charli XCX dishes on her favorite pop stars and her takes are as iconic as they are chaotic.

Charli XCX is a certified pop star and her recent release, Brat, proves it. The English singer knows a thing or two about what it takes to reach to the top of the pop echelon and is also a fan of your favorite pop stars as well. And in a recent interview, she gave her rankings to some of pop’s brightest and the person in the top spot might shock you.

In the interview, Charli’s asked to choose one pop star over another. First off, the interviewer asks, “Rihanna or Lady Gaga,” which already has Charli gagged.

“I’m so scared for this whole thing,” Charli said.

Ultimately, she chooses Rihanna, but that’s not the only time. The interviewer pits Rihanna up against Selena Gomez, Miley Cyrus, Lorde, and Phoebe Bridgers, who all lose to Bad Gal Rih. It’s not until Sabrina Carpenter comes up that Charli is gagged again.

“I really love ‘Espresso,’ but Rihanna” Charli said, referencing Carpenter’s smash hit.

Soon it was Rihanna versus Chappell Roan, a rising pop princess whose latest single “Good Luck, Babe!” is steady climbing the Billboard Hot 100. Charli nervously laughs at the debacle and even calls Roan “God tier.” Still, she chooses Rihanna over Roan.

Rihanna continues to beat out other acts like Billie Eilish, Doja Cat, and The 1975s before the interview asks “Rihanna or Troye Sivan.” Give the history between Charli and Troye, one could think she’d choose him. They do have two songs together, “1999” and “2099,” but she affirms that Troye would understand why she would choose Rihanna over him.

Lily Allen, Olivia Rodrigo, Harry Styles, and Camila Cabello all lose to Rihanna until Sky Ferreira comes into the conversation. Ultimately, Charli chooses Sky over Rihanna in a shocking end to the interview.

“It’s really tough though,” Charli explained. “That didn’t come lightly. As we know, I love Rihanna. But I really love Sky. She’s like one of a kind.”

And just like that, the Rihanna stan chooses Sky. The two singers collaborated on Charli’s self-titled third album on the song “Cross You Out.” Sky, a singer, songwriter, and fashion model from Los Angeles, rose to fame when her 2013 song “Everything Is Embarrassing” picked up steam.

While her she’s been known to release music here and there due to label issues, she’s gained a dedicated following patiently awaiting her second album Masochism. And one of those followers is Charli. Watch the full video below.
