Opponents of Kamala Harris are yet again relying on racist tactics to attack the Presidential candidate.

In Denver, Colorado, signs were posted this week on Colfax Avenue, as well as on Oneida, Colorado, and Garfield streets. The signs had racist slogans and imagery painted on them, according to City Councilwoman Shontel M. Lewis.

One sign said, “Blacks must sit at the back of the bus. Kamala’s migrants sit in the front.” This references the horrifically racist Jim Crow policies from last century, which—among other things—segregated Black and white people on public transit and forced Black folk to sit in the backs of buses and trains.

Another sign said “Kamala’s Immigrants,” with a picture of people running.

According to The Root, this sign is a reference to actual signs depicting migrants running across freeways from California, the last of which was removed in 2018.

Fortunately, Councilwoman Lewis is in contact with the authorities and working to get these signs taken down and find the people responsible. She reported that additional signs not pictured are also being removed.

An anonymous constituent reported the signs, and Lewis’ office was able to be onsite within just a few minutes.

“I wish I could say I were surprised,” Councilwoman Lewis posted, “but in a year when a Black woman could become POTUS those with hate in their heart are going to coordinate these kind[s] of atrocious, expensive campaigns to stir division.”
