The hotly-anticipated gay drama Queer is coming soon—and we’re just getting the first looks of Daniel Craig in his buzzed-about role.

The movie, directed by Luca Guadagnino (known for Call Me By Your Name, Suspiria, Bones and All, and Challengers), is based on the William S. Burroughs novel of the same name.

The story focuses on American traveler William Lee (Craig) visiting Mexico City and falling for Eugene Allerton (played by Drew Starkey). We don’t know much about the 40s-set film, but it seems like a slow-burning age gap romance on the level of Carol or Call Me By Your Name.

Queer is set to premiere September 3 at the 81st Venice International Film Festival, and is featured in the 62nd New York Film Festival lineup.

Today, we got a first look at Craig’s character in a new still from Film Updates.

We see William Lee sitting down at a Mexican cafe, reading a newspaper as he moves his glasses up above his head.

A previous still that didn’t show Craig’s face was also shared last week on the New York Film Festival’s X feed.

Craig has played out-gay detective Benoit Blanc in both Knives Out films, as well as playing Agent 007 in the James Bond movies. Starkey is best known for his role in Outer Banks on Netflix.

The cast of the film includes Omar Apollo, Henry Zaga, Jason Schwartzman, Drew Droege, Lesley Manville, Ariel Schulman, and Colin Bates.
