Omar Apollo likes guys who are out of league — just not in the direction you’d expect. In a new interview, the “Evergreen” singer revealed a strange fact about his dating history.

“I’ve had, like, ugly boyfriends,” Apollo said in an interview with French media outlet Konbini. “It was amazing.” 

“The physical is not as important,” he continued. “I think what’s more important is the soul behind the person, ‘cause I feel like sometimes physicality can be really intimidating. So I try to remove it, because I’m not as intimidated.”

“Are pretty boys less interesting?” the interviewer asked.

“No, they’re interesting,” Apollo replied. “I’m interesting,” he added with a chuckle.

So, Apollo thinks he’s pretty, and that some of his past lovers aren’t. For some of his self-deprecating fans, the revelation was a dream come true. “That means I have a chance,” wrote one hopeful commenter on TikTok.

Unfortunately, not all of the internet was charmed by Apollo’s antics. Several folks called him out for getting a big head or assuming that he was more attractive than his partners — but to be fair, having thousands of fans tell you how hot you are all the time is bound to do that to a person.

Others can’t imagine what the admission must feel like for Apollo’s exes. “After watching this video if I ever were to meet him in person and he asked me on a date I’d be so offended,” one commenter wrote on TikTok.

So, who are the exes Apollo’s talking about? He’s kept his dating life private, but he’s rumored to have dated fellow singer Frank Ocean for three years, and fans aren’t sure if his relationship with Last of Us actor Pedro Pascal ever made it out of the friend zone. (Pascal is featured on the track “Pedro” from Apollo’s new album God Said No, a collaboration that sent those fan theories into overdrive.)

Does that mean Apollo thinks Ocean and Pascal are ugly? Not necessarily. He said he’d had ugly boyfriends, not that all of his boyfriends were ugly — if they were his boyfriends at all. Regardless, whoever Apollo dates next will be under a little extra scrutiny.
