The Democratic National Convention in Chicago is off to a swinging start, and the internet is abuzz with hot takes on Ella Emhoff, Hillary Clinton, and of course, the woman of the hour, Vice President Kamala Harris. That includes both the content of her opening night speech, and a fun fact about the bold suit she wore to give it.

On the first day of the convention, Harris made a surprise appearance, and her choice of wardrobe, a tan pantsuit from French fashion label Chloé, was a surprise all its own. Tan isn’t a conventional color choice for politicians, as Barack Obama proved with his infamous tan suit back in 2014. Could Harris’ color choice be a reference to the former president?

Or, as some internet sleuths reasoned, could the fabric’s name have been too perfect to pass up? According to Chloé’s website, the shade of tan Harris wore is called — wait for it — coconut brown.

Yes, the queen of coconuts herself found a coconut-colored outfit. It feels poetic that ahead of accepting the party’s nomination for president, she chose to dress like she did just fall out of the much-memed coconut tree.

One user on X pulled from a camp classic to point out the colorful coincidence. Riffing on Miranda Priestly’s iconic cerulean speech from The Devil Wears Prada, they wrote, “What you don’t know is that that suit is not just tan, it’s not beige, it’s not khaki. It’s actually coconut brown.”

It’s worth noting that Harris’ outfit is custom, so it’s not the exact same design as the suit listed on the website. Still, Chloé’s catalog of fabrics (and thus the coconut namesake) is likely the same.

The comparison led others to wonder if Miranda Priestly, were she real, would be a Harris supporter in this election. Given that Anna Wintour (who is all but confirmed to have inspired Priestly’s character) is a staunch Democrat who hosted a fundraising event for Joe Biden’s re-election campaign earlier this year, Priestly would no doubt be coconut-pilled too.
