Frankie Grande just accepted an offer to Kamala Harris’ running mate. The only problem? The offer didn’t come from Harris.

Instead, it came from the popular satire account Poo Crave on X, which posted a photo of Grande and Harris together with the caption, “Kamala Harris chooses Frankie Grande as running mate.”

The post went viral, and Grande himself chose to get in on the joke and steal a conservative slogan in the process.

“I humbly accept,” he replied on X. “I will be reclaiming MAGA as MY slogan and we shall Make America GAY Again. Thank you.”

People were excited at the prospect of Grande as the next vice president, if only because it mean his sister Ariana Grande would get even more of the national spotlight. “The Star-Spangled Banner” became America’s national anthem nearly 100 years ago — it’s about time for a new one, and she’s more than up to the challenge of penning it.

Others joked that Grande couldn’t be Harris’ running mate, because she already chose a different gay icon: Plastique Tiara, current contestant on RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars, who got her own viral post posing with Harris just a day before Grande’s.

Why does a photo of Grande and Harris (along with her husband) exist in the first place? It comes from a Pride Month reception Harris hosted at her house in 2023, in partnership with GLAAD. The event was a who’s-who of queer celebs, including Sasha Colby, Gus Kenworthy, and — of course — Grande himself.

That wasn’t the first time the two crossed paths, though. They actually met in 2019, when Harris was still a senator for Grande’s home state of California. Grande and Harris met, of all places, at a SoulCycle class, where they snapped a group picture that Grande just reposted in support of her presidential campaign.

“I’m thrilled to announce my continued support for Vice President @kamalaharris as she runs for president in the upcoming election!” Grande wrote on Instagram. “Since we met at @soulcycle before she was the @vp she has been incredibly supportive of the LGBTQ+ community. 💪🏽🇺🇸 And as a very proud member of the LGBTQ+ community and a board member at @glaad, I know how crucial our voices are.”
