U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) warned that Florida could become a Republican political hotspot if Trump wins, according to a recent interview with The Advocate.

“I know firsthand what’s at stake for women because I represent the state of Florida,” Wasserman Schultz said in the interview. “We have seen essentially the state version of what Project 2025 will be like if, God forbid, Donald Trump ever returns to the White House.”

She compared the dynamics of the two primary parties, describing Democrats as warm and welcoming to marginalized people, and calling Republicans the “party of total invalidation.” She called Republican-run Florida a “cesspool” and “a total horror show” under DeSantis.

“We can elect Kamala Harris and Tim Walz and make sure that you have the freedom to make your own healthcare decisions without government and politicians interfering,” she continued.

She also believes that Florida should be a tourism hotspot for LGBTQ+ individuals, referring to the state as the “best state in the country to come if you are a member of the LGBTQ+ community” in spite of legislation restricting what bathrooms trans people are able to use, as well the rapid increase in hate crimes in the state within the past few years.
