Azealia Banks has already given her opinion on Chappell Roan. She’s given her opinion on Sabrina Carpenter, too. But with her latest controversial post, Banks pitted the two pop princesses against each other, and according to her, there’s a clear winner.

Banks’ latest hot take stemmed from Spotify’s announcement of its official picks for the top five songs of the summer: “HOT TO GO!” by Chappell Roan, “Espresso” by Sabrina Carpenter, “Birds of a Feather” by Billie Eilish, “Not Like Us” by Kendrick Lamar, and “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” by Shaboozey.

Those picks make sense: all five tracks dominated the airwaves this summer, and with room for only five choices, not every summer bop could make the cut. But for Banks, one song deserved special praise, while another shouldn’t have been in the conversation to begin with.

“Chappell is the GOOD SIS. She really gives me all kinds of nostalgiaaaaa,” Banks wrote in a post on X.

But where she had praise for Roan, she had disdain for Carpenter: “That espresso song was like a just add water version of something from hot pink. Like a doja cat throw away,” she continued. “It didn’t eat.”

Banks also threw a bone to Charli xcx, adding, “And damn… none of them brat records got on here?” It’s unclear, though, if Banks thinks any of Charli’s songs deserved to make the list, or if she’s merely pointing out that they didn’t make the cut.

She did give Charli some unequivocal praise in a follow-up post, writing, “Ngl, Charli really did her THANG on ‘Apple,’ . I would argue that the song is #2 in her discog behind ‘i love it’.”

But it wouldn’t be a Banks post without just a touch of shade: “Just let slayyter do the Britney/pop Americana thing And give us all the UK new wave britpop legendaryness within,” she continued. “Apple is such a classy , studiously crafted piece.”

Ultimately, it sounds like Banks is on the Chappell and Charli train, while she could happily never hear a Sabrina song again. In other words, she has no trouble sleeping on Carpenter, even after a shot of that “me espresso.”
