Azealia Banks is the queen of the hot take. In the past few months alone, she’s come for Beyoncé, Troye Sivan, Doechii, and Sabrina Carpenter. Now, Chappell Roan has caught her attention.

Hearing that Banks made a comment about your fave normally means bracing for impact: her reviews almost always skew negative. So a trend asking for users on X (formerly Twitter) to give their thoughts on the “Good Luck, Babe!” singer seemed like a drag waiting to happen.

But Banks took the internet by surprise with her thoughts on Roan, which were unabashedly positive.

“She is singlehandedly making white women cool again,” Banks wrote. “The only pop girl out here being an authentic self. She is far from an impostor. I really like her.”

Folks across the internet noted that a compliment from Banks means that much more, considering how critical she’s known to be. “Azealia Banks giving you a positive review is like being annointed,” as one user put it.

It’s not Banks first time praising Roan, either. In the same breath that she dragged Sabrina Carpenter, Banks compared Roan to some of music’s most iconic women.

“Chappell is like sooooooooooooooooo sweeetie pie,” Banks wrote in reply to a fan. “When she cried on stage at gov ball i was sobbing so hard. And she really is in her womanness. Shes like Stevie nicks, rocky horror, Joan Jett, Teena Marie, Belinda Carlisle all in one. Most excited for the Teena Marie of it.”
