Chappell Roan and Billie Eilish are two of today’s biggest pop stars, and they just got the seal of approval from another music icon: Marina, previously known as Marina and the Diamonds.

In a new interview with Attitude, Marina commented on both Roan and Eilish’s music, singing the praises of both. Roan often gets compared to the “Froot” singer (particularly Marina’s Electra Heart era from the early 2010s), which Marina said makes perfect sense.

“I love her. I can totally see why people draw comparisons,” Marina said. “She’s very idiosyncratic and very much herself. When I first heard her record, I recognized how starved I’ve been for albums that have identity and cohesion. Bring back fun!”

And for Eilish, Marina said that hearing the “Lunch” singer was a fan of hers was a high compliment, and that the feeling was mutual.

“It’s flattering, especially when the artist is amazing — I’m a fan of Billie,” she said.

“It feels like a nice cycle of life in music, when someone like Kylie [Minogue] has inspired me, and my music had inspired another generation of artists,” Marina continued. “Honestly, it’s part of an artist’s purpose to be part of culture, and feel like you’re contributing in some way.”

Both Eilish and Roan are loud and proud about their queerness, while Marina is an outspoken LGBTQ+ ally with a legion of gay fans. She also spoke on the importance of using your voice, “whether for LGBTQ rights or other political causes.”

“We’re at a time where it doesn’t really serve anyone to be quiet,” she continued. “What we all crave, I sense, is to know that the people we look up to are human, and feel the same way we do. Not everyone’s the same though. That’s also OK.”

The interview also revealed that Marina has a new album on the way, which is set to arrive in 2025: “I am working on a new record, and I am loving it,” she said. “It will definitely be out next year.” After her comments on wanting to bring back fun, maybe this album will see the return of Marina’s campier side. Anyone else in the mood for Electra Heart 2?
