“It’s a Kamalanomenon.” No — “you can take me Walz to go.” Whatever the reference, Kamala Harris and Tim Walz’s campaign and Chappell Roan just make sense together.

But the Harris/Walz campaign took things to a new level with its newest merchandise: a hat that looks eerily familiar to Roan’s fandom. So familiar, in fact, that Roan herself chimed in on the similarity.

The merch in question is a camouflage baseball cap with “Harris Walz” embroidered in bright orange, perfect for genuine country folks or city slickers who like the rural aesthetic.

Meanwhile, one of Roan’s most popular merch items is also a camouflage baseball cap, also featuring bright orange text. The only difference? Roan’s hat says “Midwest Princess,” a reference to her debut album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess.

Naturally, when Harris and Walz’s hat hit the internet, fans drew the comparison, and Roan couldn’t help but take note. “Is this real,” she asked of the merch in a post on X (formerly Twitter), where she also reshared another post reading, “How gay do [you] have to be to see hunting colors and think it’s a Chappell Roan thing.”

This all comes after the internet pointed out a common thread between Roan and Walz. Roan coined the term Midwest Princess, a reference to her upbringing in Missouri. But Walz, who was born in Nebraska and made a career for himself in Minnesota, is a Midwest Princess in his own way, too.

One viral post even suggested that Walz wear Roan’s merch to solidify the connection. Might the campaign have seen that post and taken things one step further?

The hat’s description in the Harris/Walz shop reads, “You asked, we answered,” so the Chappell connection is likely more than coincidental. We could see Walz and Harris dancing in the Pink Pony Club before long.
