How do you capture the life of an icon like Cher in a single memoir? You don’t. It turns out Cher’s long-awaited memoir will be a multibook saga, with the first part coming out later this year.

On Wednesday, the 78-year-old star revealed the cover art and release date of Cher: The Memoir, Part One. In total, the memoir will consist of two volumes, with part one out November 19 and part two slated for 2025.

Cher originally announced plans for a memoir and accompanying biopic in 2018, aiming for a 2020 release. But 2020 came and went with no memoir and no comment from Cher. In a November appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Cher explained what went wrong.

“I just totally chickened out,” she said. “I didn’t put in some things that need to be in, and they’re not comfortable. But they need to be put in, so I have to go back and man up… I’ve lived too long and done too much, and so it’s like it should be the encyclopedia.”

Many fans agree with this sentiment.

“First volume because it takes a f*ckin encyclopedia to tell the whole story!” one user commented on Cher’s announcement post. “This first book is about her being worshipped in the ancient Mesopotamia.”

“Please be ten parts,” added another.

Fellow icon Whoopi Goldberg chimed in with her own excitement. “I can’t wait Cher, I’m excited,” she wrote. “[And] yes Please read the Audiobook it would be so great to hear your voice and feel your vibe in every word.”

Although Cher only showed off the cover image, publisher Dey Street Books (an imprint of the William Morrow Group at Harper Collins) has released a more extended description of what the first part will cover. “With her trademark honesty and humor, Cher: The Memoir traces how this diamond in the rough succeeded with no plan and little confidence to become the trailblazing superstar the world has been unable to ignore for more than half a century,” the description reads.

“Cher: The Memoir, Part One follows her extraordinary beginnings through childhood to meeting and marrying Sonny Bono—and reveals the highly complicated relationship that made them world-famous, but eventually drove them apart.

“Cher: The Memoir reveals the daughter, the sister, the wife, the lover, the mother, and the superstar.

“It is a life too immense for only one book.”
