Sabrina Carpenter might have just confirmed the straight allegations in a brand new song.

While performing at the Grammy Museum’s Clive Davis Theater in Los Angeles on August 2, Carpenter treated fans to a sneak peek of her upcoming album Short n’ Sweet in the form of an unreleased song called “Slim Pickins.”

Like almost all of Carpenter’s songs, “Slim Pickins” is chock-full of clever wordplay and humorous one-liners. The song is about the shallowness of the modern dating pool, particularly when you’re dealing with straight men. With a slight country twang, Carpenter sang instantly iconic lyrics including, “Since the good ones are deceased or taken, I’ll just keep on moanin’ and bitchin’,” and, “This boy doesn’t even know the difference between ‘their,’ ‘there,’ and ‘they are.’”

But it’s the song’s outro that really caught fans’ attention. “Since the good ones call their exes wasted, and since the Lord forgot my gay awakening, then I’ll just be here in the kitchen serving up some moanin’ and bitchin’.”

Carpenter’s candor about her “gay awakening” — or rather, her lack thereof — sparked jokes across the internet.

Some fans, however, think the lyric actually is gay. Rather than the Lord forgetting to give her a gay awakening, they think she’s saying he forgot that she already had one.

Others connected the lyric to her cover of Chappell Roan’s sapphic anthem “Good Luck, Babe!,” which had fans wondering about Carpenter’s sexuality. Maybe her gay awakening is still to come (or the Lord will remember what already happened), but in the meantime, Carpenter’s made it crystal clear: she wouldn’t be dating men if she had any other choice.
