Former Olympic skier Gus Kenworthy may be best known for his activities on the slopes but he sure does enjoy the Mediterranean sunshine.

Kenworthy, 32, who retired from competitive freeskiing after the 2022 Winter Games in Beijing, has been on vacation in recent days in Ibiza, Spain. The island is known for its nightlife and summer parties.

Kenworthy has treated fans to a selection of vacation snaps on Instagram. Wearing a small pair of leopard-print Speedos, many show off his very toned physique.

One batch of photos shows him lounging around on a boat and beach with a group of friends. The last image shows him passionately kissing his boyfriend, software account executive Tyler Green. The two men were previously photographed together on a New Year vacation to Brazil.

Kenworthy posted another selection of photos last night. One of them is a close-up shot of his Speedos as he sits beside a pool. Other videos show him parting at the famed nightclub, Amnesia.

Body dysmorphia

Last September, Kenworthy told Attitude magazine about experiencing bouts of body dysmorphia.

That Kenworthy feels anxiety over his appearance might surprise many, but he suggests it’s common to all gay people.

“I don’t think I have the perfect body. I have absolute body dysmorphia, the same way that every gay person does,” Kenworthy said.

He says he takes photos of himself when he’s happy with his body to post to Instagram. However, he doesn’t always feel comfortable with the way he looks.

“There are moments where I’m, like, super happy with how my body looks and I’m being stricter about what I’m eating and better with my training,” Gus explained.

“And then there are moments where I’m not feeling good about it. And the way that Instagram works is that’s probably not the time I’m going to post a photo. So it creates this kind of distorted version of reality.”

He said he’s flattered that others regard him as a sex symbol.

“In terms of being viewed as sexual, I don’t care. I’m flattered and fine with it. I’m a very, very sexual person and I’m very open about it.”

A letter to fellow Olympians

Earlier this month, ahead of the Olympics starting in Paris, Kenworthy wrote a beautiful open letter to queer athletes taking part in the games.

“Whether you’re competing out and proud, still figuring things out for yourself, or perhaps keeping things under wraps for right now, you should hold your head high knowing that you’ve already done the damn thing: You’re an Olympian!”, Kenworthy said.

Kenworthy went on to discuss his own coming out journey as an athlete. He talked about what kept him from speaking out and what happened when he did.

“Not only did it turn out that my fears were unfounded — but in fact, the reaction was quite the opposite. I was met with so much love and support. The following season was the best of my career. I guess it’s true what they say: ‘The truth shall set you free.’ Suddenly feeling unshackled and getting to compete as myself, I skied better than I ever had.”

Since his Olympic success, Kenworthy has pivoted to acting. He appeared in American Horror Story: 1984 and last year had a cameo in the movie, 80 For Brady, and a slasher pic called The Sacrifice Game.
