Twisters is the number one movie in America — so why did no one know about one of its sapphic stars?

The tornado-chasing sequel to the 1996 movie Twister has no shortage of eye candy, including its leads Glen Powell, Daisy Edgar-Jones, and Anthony Ramos. But where they’re catering to the hetero gaze, the film’s supporting cast seems handpicked for a lesbian audience.

We’re speaking, of course, about Katy O’Brian, whose last movie was the iconic lesbian thriller Love Lies Bleeding, which came out earlier this year. In Twisters, she plays Dani, a cowboy-hat wearing mechanic who fans are saying deserved much more screen time (and much more promotion).

One viral TikTok on the topic wonders why O’Brian’s involvement in the film was so downplayed.

“Tell me how I found out Katy O’Brian was in Twisters (2024) wearing a cowboy hat through ~myself~ sitting in the theater because no one is talking about it,” it said, accompanied by a slideshow of O’Brian’s fits throughout the film. The video’s caption got straight to the point: “go see twisters if ur gay.”

That video’s comments section was similarly peeved not to have known about O’Brian’s cowgirl era in advance. “Had to grip the seats every time she came on screen,” reported one commenter. “That’s my woman.”

“SEE WHY IS NO ONE TALKING ABT IT,” asked another. “I WOULDVE BEEN THERE SOONER OHMYGOD idgaf abt glen powell but COWGIRLS?????”

“I literally went, ‘Wait I know those muscles,’” recalled a third.

Over on X, the lovefest for O’Brian continued. One post posited that in combination with Powell, the movie seems determined to turn its audience bisexual.

Meanwhile, behind-the-scenes pics of O’Brian in costume were going viral of their accord. Clearly, Twisters was missing out on a huge untapped market — but now that O’Brian’s role is better known, sapphics are no doubt driving up the movie’s ticket sales as we speak.
