Twink Again

Meet the “twink at Google” giving Chappell Roan and Sasha Colby their flowers

Last week, Chappell Roan went viral for her iconic appearance on The Tonight Show. Beyond a sickening performance of her hit song “Good Luck, Babe!” and two Barbie of Swan Lake-inspired outfits, Roan caught the public’s attention for shouting out two gay icons: RuPaul’s Drag Race winner Sasha Colby, and a “random twink that works at Google.” Now, thanks to social media, we know exactly which so-called twink is behind it all.

The moment came courtesy of host Jimmy Fallon bringing up Roan’s viral Coachella speech, in which she called herself “your favorite artist’s favorite artist,” a reference to Sasha Colby, who Roan has said is her favorite drag queen.

“Sasha Colby said, ‘I’m your favorite drag queen’s favorite drag queen,’ and I was like, it just hit me through the heart,” Roan explained. “And so I was like, I hope Sasha Colby one day watches me, and that’s why I said it.”

Fallon went on to point out that when you search for Roan’s name on Google, the search engine asks if you meant to search for “your favorite artist’s favorite artist.”

“I didn’t do that,” Roan replied. “It’s this random twink that works at Google. I know it is! I know it’s just some assistant that was like, ‘We love her!’”

Fans have noticed that since that clip went viral, Colby’s gotten the same star treatment from Google: a search for the drag superstar prompts a message asking if you meant to search for “your favorite drag queen’s favorite drag queen.”

So, who is the “random twink” in question pulling the strings at Google? As it turns out, it’s not a twink at all, but social media strategist and TikTok content producer Linda Dianne.

Dianne took credit for the feature on X, where they replied to the clip of Roan calling them a “random twink,” writing, “Well… not exactly.”

She replied to another post pointing out the same feature for Colby with a winking emoji, though she corrected the post’s assumption that she was an intern. Let’s give credit where credit is due: these are full-on Google employees, who deserve just as many flowers as the icons they’re honoring with their work.

Dianne also celebrated the shoutout on LinkedIn, sharing the Tonight Show clip and writing, “Should I change my LinkedIn headline to ‘some random twink that works at Google’ y/n?! What a perfect pride moment.”

She also gave props to her “other OG meme team half Sam Oshins who equally bullied this into action” in the comments. We can thank Dianne and Oshins for making the internet just a little gayer this Pride month, and for giving Roan and Colby the recognition they deserve.
