There’s no doubt about it: this is Sabrina Carpenter’s year. First she got in our heads with Me Espresso, then she trolled us all with her Barry Keoghan-starring video for “Please Please Please,” and now her sophomore album “Short n’ Sweet” is finally upon us.

But if there’s one thing about Sabrina, it’s that her energy is 1000% straight.

When the hosts of @twodykesandamic on TikTok said that we haven’t seen such aggressive straight girl energy since Tara Reid, they were not lying.

Or were they?

It’s not that Sabrina Carpenter doesn’t give off straight energy—she absolutely does. But since the “Taste” video where Carpenter smooches Jenna Ortega full on the lips, folks have been wondering if Carpenter might be trying to tell us something.

There’s a lot of compelling evidence out there, including when Sabrina said she appreciated the male gender as well as the female gender. And there was that flirty back-and-forth with Adele. And we can’t forget her girlinred collab.

But there’s something even more interesting that one commenter pointed out recently, and it’s giving us plenty of food for thought.

It’s true: on first glance, the album cover art looks fairly straightforward. Sabrina looks saucily over her shoulder, meeting the viewer’s gaze. We see a scarlet lipstick kiss implanted on her shoulder, and we might think nothing of it. Until we start to wonder how that kiss got there.

Either a very hot man wearing lipstick planted one on her, or that Jenna Ortega kiss was just the beginning of a sapphic arc…

Now look, we don’t know anything as of yet. We do know that, per DeuxMoi, Carpenter and Keoghan do seem to have called it quits due to Keoghan’s “partying,” which makes sense because the minute you make a music video begging a man not to embarrass you by being an idiot, he will immediately embarrass you by being an idiot.

But that doesn’t necessarily mean that we’re going to see full-on Gaybrina any time soon.

Still, the gays are hoping, and wishing, and most importantly, wondering.

One thing is certain: we’ll be working late on this case, with pleasure.
