There’s a disturbing wave of new puritanism that’s been showing up in queer spaces recently, and it’s giving many of us pause. It’s one thing to sexualize a woman in a way that feels degrading, unnecessary, and misogynistic. It’s another thing to appreciate a woman’s beauty under the female gaze.

When one film critic and legendary tweeter posted about appreciating an actress’s body, some folks on the Internet decided to get mad about it. But those who understood the tweet responded in kind. And that’s when we were reminded of the glorious dress Uma Thurman wore at a post-Oscars party in 2002, shortly after she gave birth to Levon Hawke.

Obviously, there’s a lot to appreciate here.

Has anyone ever worn a black dress better? It’s hard to say. “That’s a great rack,” one sapphic commenter said. Another simply noted: “I’m so sorry, Ms. Thurman, for not being familiar with your game.”

The more you know!

The sapphics and she/theys are letting their appreciation be known. Perhaps one poster said it best with, “respectfully, them thangs are hanging.”

Even the gay men are finding much to love about this photo…

Not only the foreground, but the couple (Helen Hunt and Matthew Carnahan) getting it on in the background? What a night. When you’re in the presence of greatness, everything is romantic.

Even Oprah had to stan!

So for every weird MAGA troll who feels like certain parts of women’s bodies exist to “own the left” or whatever…I don’t know, maybe take the pulse? Also, sit down when sapphics are talking! Thank you!
