Fan art comes in all forms, from digital paintings to crochet crafts and everything in between. But one Chappell Roan fan took his tribute to the next level, recreating Roan’s album cover on the streets of San Francisco one mile at a time.

On the Chappell Roan subreddit, user Frank Chan (aka iwannabechanarchy) posted a route he’d run in the shape of the cover art for Roan’s The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess in honor of the album’s one-year anniversary. He tracked the run in the app Strava. All told, Chan ran 46.6 miles with an elevation gain of 5,453 feet in eight hours and five minutes, which he spread out over three days.

In the comments of his Reddit post, Chan confirmed he listened to Roan’s songs as he ran, including “some of the recent shows posted to YouTube like Lolla, Outside Lands, and Bonnaroo.”

Chan is no stranger to running in creative shapes to honor his favorite artists. On Instagram, he’s posted runs in the shape of albums by Whitney Houston, Pet Shop Boys, and Green Day.

Chan also posted a time lapse of his Roan run. “Most of my album run art is my personal punk canon, some bands having been around for decades,” he wrote in the caption. “This debut is so spectacular I’m not waiting that long, but I’m hoping we’re celebrating the 10-year anniversary just as well.”

When Chan’s Chappell tribute was reposted to X (formerly Twitter), it quickly went viral, garnering more than 1.6 million views. Fellow fans of Roan were especially impressed by the run taking place in San Francisco, a city notorious for its hills. No matter what album Chan recreates next, we’re absolutely seated for it — but all the better if it’s by another gay icon.
