Comedian Amber Ruffin comes out on the last day of Pride Month with inspiring message

Comedian, writer and producer Amber Ruffin chose yesterday, the last day of Pride Month, to come out as queer.

In a post on Instagram, “Ruffin said, In what will come as a shock to exactly zero people, I’m using the last day of PRIDE to come out! Be proud of who you are, little babies! I know I am! And I can’t wait to be discriminated against for a new reason!! 🏳️‍🌈”

She wore a purple tank top with the word “Queer” emblazoned across it in rainbow colors.

Ruffin is a long-time contributor and regular face on Late Night With Seth Myers. She hosted The Amber Ruffin Show on Peacock and a podcast with her sister, Lacey Lamar.

Ruffin has also made a splash on Broadway. She co-wrote the recent revival of Some Like It Hot and updated the book for The Wiz.

Fellow queer celebrities respond

Several celebrities commented on the post. Actress and singer Cynthi Erivo said, “Welcome baby love!! Bathrooms are to the left, refreshments to the right, grab a chair. The DJ takes requests.”

Sophia Bush commented, “Welcome home Amber!! Our team just keeps getting hotter and smarter!! Happy Pride, dear one.”

Tan France, from Queer Eye, said, “Yay!! Happy Pride, love!! I hope you feel so loved and supported,” while Lena Waithe wrote, “You are loved and seen and appreciated!!”

Heralding from Omaha, Nebraska, Ruffin, 45, was married for 13 years to Dutch painter Jan Schiltmeijer. They finalized their divorce in December 2023.
