Luke Skywalker’s sexuality has long been a point of discussion, with arguments that he is gay, asexual, or neither. But this TikToker and his friend are highlighting some extra hints that Luke is gay.

@TheJakeChritie presented another entry in his Museum of Twitter series. Entry #0006 deals with a tweet from X/Twitter user @SwinginParteigh from 2019. The original tweet and account appear to have disappeared, but the content has been preserved.

The 2019 tweet might seem like an odd thing to bring up in 2024, but Jake Christie points to a Collider interview with Leslye Headland. In the interview, Headland notes that in Return of the Jedi Luke turns up in “straight up black, the Chanel boots,” seemingly referencing the tweet. While it might be suggested that she was noting the costume, not the tweet, sadly, Mark Hamill has stated that Luke was not actually wearing Chanel boots (something Christie doesn’t mention in his video.)

That being said, the TikTok has more than the Chanel boots to talk about. Noting that he isn’t gay himself, Jake Christie calls in his certified “Gay Friend,” Michael Springthorpe, to give the lowdown on the evidence that Luke Skywalker is gay. Springthorpe notes that the Chanel boots are “just the tip.” Luke wants to get out of town and is helped by an elder queer. After that, “the only people he hangs out with are a guy who wears lots of capes, two catty robots, his hot best friend, and a literal bear.”

Christie the moves to the other part of the tweet: “for JJ Abrams to say that someone else is gonna be the first gay in starwar [sic].” This is in reference to claims that Rise of Skywalker featured Star Wars’ first same-sex kiss. The kiss in question is in the background of another scene and between two characters that Christie points out are called Larma D’Acy and Wrobie Tyce, but you’d have to look the names up to know them.

While Luke Skywalker famously had an onscreen kiss with a woman, there are two reasons it doesn’t go a long way to proving anything one way or the other. First, Leia initiates the kiss, not Luke, primarily to make Han Solo jealous. Second, given that it was his sister it’s maybe better that we all pretend that didn’t happen.

Of course, there was one major piece of evidence that isn’t mentioned in the video before now that Luke was gay. The actor who played Luke, Mark Hamill himself, said he could be. While Mark Hamill’s comment doesn’t represent a definitive canon answer to the question, it certainly goes a long way.
