If you’re terminally online like so many of us, by now you’ve probably heard jokes about trans girls… having sex with pumpkins. Chances are good you were pretty confused at this—why are people associating trans girls with pumpkins all of a sudden, what’s going on? And what’s with the discourse surrounding it?

Luckily, we have the extremely important answers for you.

Where Did It Begin?

According to Know Your Meme, the earliest trace of this meme goes way back to 2017, where someone posted a drawn image of a trans girl witch having sex with a pumpkin for Halloween. It quickly went viral, and it was soon brought to life after a video emerged on Porn Hub.

The phenomenon went viral across sites like Reddit and Twitter, leading to jokey generalizations about trans woman loving pumpkins.

What Are People’s Reactions To It?

Reactions to this meme are mixed. A lot of the jokes around it come from other transfems, who make memes online referencing this by picturing themselves with pumpkins and alluding to an NSFW relationship with them.

“What kind of Pumpkin are you planning on doing for Halloween??” asked another trans woman who posted a video of her carving out a pumpkin in a wholesome twist.

A few people are using this as an opportunity to thirst, and rightfully so.

However, many trans women are uncomfortable with the generalizations and over-sexualization implicit in the meme, especially as it pertains to bottom dysphoria.

Love it or hate it, the trans girl pumpkin meme is a bizarre part of Internet history now, and come fall, we all have to contend with it.

What’s The Takeaway?

Like anything else, it’s probably best to not generalize all transfems under one umbrella. But if transfems are leading the way in making the jokes, then there’s no harm in joining in. Just don’t go around making sex jokes to any random transfem you see—that’s a creepy move!
