Jane Schoenbrun, the creator of the hit trans film I Saw The TV Glow, already knows their film has cracked many eggs and changed many lives. But fans are making it officially known after Schoenbrun asked for viewer testimonies yesterday on X. There was no shortage of replies, and it’s clear that the trans community deeply needed this groundbreaking film.

After being told that testimonies might help the film win more incredibly deserved awards, Schoenbrun put out a call to viewers to say exactly what the film meant to them. Cue the happy tears.

Writer and activist Gillian Branstetter put the film’s importance into political context.

One viewer said that the film gave her the courage to wear a dress in public for the first time, even before she’d seen it!

So much incredible art has come from the film’s fans and its lore.

The movie’s message sounded a deep chord with viewers who grew up never expecting to see themselves or their stories on the big screen.

“There is still time!”

“Moving us forward” could be the film’s tagline.

Jane responded to all the replies with their own heartfelt message.

It just goes to show: you never know how deeply people might need your art until you make it and put it out into the world.
