Last night at the Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner, Trump did his usual shtick of talking about nothing, cracking weird jokes, and generally being insufferable. But one particular joke started making the rounds quite quickly. Referring to the political group White Dudes for Harris, Trump said he wasn’t worried about them because “their wives and their wives’ lovers are all voting for me.”

While some of the ancient white faces surrounding Trump seemed to respond appreciatively to the jest, that doesn’t take away from the fact that it doesn’t make any sense. Trump has always been a candidate who stands for the rights of incels, rich divorced dads, weirdos, and woman-haters, a famously sexless conglomeration of deplorables.

So as you can imagine, White Dudes for Harris had no trouble responding in kind.

Touché! Obviously it doesn’t take much to disabuse anyone of the notion that one can both cast a vote for Trump and have a lover at the same time. It’s one or the other, folks.

Without realizing it, Trump did one of the worst things you can do in an election with this joke. He offended the wife guys. And wife guys, as we all know, are not quick to forget an insult, especially as it concerns their wives.

But there’s another question here: who is Melania voting for? We might assume she’s ready to cast a vote for her husband, but as the marriage seems to be on the rocks, it’s anybody’s guess, especially since Melania’s recently-dropped memoir delves into her pro-choice views.

I guess we’ll see whose lovers and boyfriends are voting for who come November 5th.
