Not long after breaking our hearts in All of Us Strangers, Andrew Scott has been cast in a new science-fiction romance opposite Greta Lee (Past Lives). The upcoming film, My Notes on Mars, will follow a husband and wife who rekindle their marriage in the wake of an eerie disappearance.

According to the synopsis from Deadline, the film “centers on Margot (Lee), a brilliant young scientist with a troubled marriage, who disappears inexplicably while hiking with her husband Sam (Scott) and a group of friends. A few weeks later, she miraculously reappears the day of her own memorial service.

“Margot is clearly not the same as before the accident. Nevertheless, Sam sees his wife’s miraculous reappearance as a second chance.”

My Notes on Mars represents the first English-language venture for Hungarian director Lili Horvát. Her 2020 film, Preparations to Be Together for an Unknown Period of Time, was selected as Hungary’s official entry for Best International Feature at the Academy Awards, though it was not ultimately nominated.

Horvát described My Notes on Mars as “a story about the labyrinthine human psyche, about the ever-changing faces of love. To start over a marriage, to rediscover the other, to fall in love again — our story is about the grueling realization of this impossible desire.”

In addition to acting as director, Horvát wrote the script, saying she is “particularly drawn to characters who dare to make surprising, unconventional choices in both their private and professional lives.”

“I feel that this is true for Greta and Andrew as well,” Horvát added. “It is an incredible honor for me that I can accompany them on the journey of creating Margot and Sam Fogel.”

Lee earned Golden Globe, Critics’ Choice Award, Independent Spirit Award and Gotham Award nominations for her performance in A24’s Past Lives. Scott received a Golden Globe for starring in All of Us Strangers and is currently in the running for two Emmys for producing and acting in Netflix’s miniseries Ripley.

My Notes on Mars is still in the early phases of production and is set to begin filming next Spring.
