Grinning

‘Smile 2’ trailer has Naomi Scott and Lukas Gage running for their lives

Smile 2‘s trailer brings back creepy grins and plenty of horror.

After leaving the internet musical breadcrumbs, it seems that they lead to the teaser trailer for Smile 2. The sequel to the box office smash Smile, has victims grinning and fans of the franchise grimacing. While the first film introduced us to the gruesome horrors from people sporting creepy grins, it seems like Smile 2 is pushing the envelope even further.

Smile 2‘s focus on global pop sensation Skye Riley, played by Naomi Scott. The pop is about to embark on a new world tour when she being experiencing inexplicable horrors. Overwhelmed the by string of terrifying events and the pressures of fame, the Lady Gaga/Ashley O-esque singer is forced to reckon with her dark past to gain control of her future.

Judging by the trailer, this won’t be an easy feat. Especially when those around her are mysteriously enacting horrors onto themselves, like Lukas Gage‘s character smacking himself in the face with a weight. Check out the trailer, but be warned, it’s not for the faint of heart.

The first Smile followed therapist Rose Cotter (Susie Bacon) who witnesses the death of a patient, which leads to a bizarre turn of supernatural events all dealing with victims who have creepy smiles on their faces. When Smile premiered in 2022, it quickly became one the highest-grossing R-rated films during the pandemic, much in part to its creepy viral marketing tactics. Smile 2 seems to be taking a page from its predecessor’s book by creating a viral marketing campaign around fictional pop star Skye Riley.

The campaign features snippets from a concert where Skye performs the grim pop song “Blood on White Satin.” While it’s certainly a bop, the tune seems to foreshadow some pretty dark events that’ll take place within the film. Now, the song is officially out alongside with the new Smile 2 trailer.

We’ll see what horrors wait for Skye when Smile 2 premieres on October 18.
