Baby Tate is the queen of the remix, and on one of her latest tracks, the “Hey, Mickey!” rapper showed that she can go toe to toe with the queen of drag.

On Tate’s YouTube channel, she has a series called Tate Tuesday, where every week she release a new freestyle, cover, or remix. For the final Tuesday in June, she created a remix to the song that jumpstarted RuPaul’s career: “Supermodel (You Better Work).”

In her viral remix, titled “Working Girl,” Tate put her own spin on the RuPaul classic, dropping lines like, “Last night RuPaul was in my dreams, and what did she say to me? She said to work, so I did!” and “We all born naked and the rest is drag, so I guess that means I’ll be a queen till I die!”

Tate, who’s part of the queer community herself, also paid tribute to Black queer icons in the track’s second verse: “Thank the royalty before me: RuPaul and Marsha P. I talk my sh*t like Ma Rainey and I dance to the beat like Alvin Ailey.”

In the video’s description on YouTube, Tate explained why she was inspired to remix the song.

“For the final #TateTuesday of Pride and Black Music Month I thought nothing could be more perfect than paying my homage to the Queen of Drag,” she wrote. “Thank you, Queen, for all that you do and have done for the LGBTQ+ community. My life was so drab until I found drag!”

Over on TikTok, the song’s comments section was chock-full of requests for Tate to make the song official and collab with RuPaul herself, maybe even making an appearance on Drag Race.

“Let’s get the sample approved so we can get this as a lip sync song and you as a judge guest,” one commenter suggested.

“We need an official remix with you on it ASAP,” demanded another.

“I have a feeling RuPaul would 20000% back this,” chimed in a third.

Though Tate posted the song at the end of June, it’s only now going viral thanks to a post on X, which is calling for RuPaul to give Tate the rights to “Supermodel” to officially release the remix.

Unfortunately, that choice isn’t up to Ru. Her music has been produced under her own label, RuCo Inc., since 2004, but her first few albums are still owned by other labels, including her debut album Supermodel of the World — which, of course, includes “Supermodel.”

That means, for now, “Working Girl” is only available on YouTube and SoundCloud. But regardless of where we can hear the song, we’ll be keeping it on loop.
