Pop Star Era

‘Bridgerton’ star Nicola Coughlan’s debut single is just in time for pride month

Nicola Coughlan’s new song is a dream come true for the Bridgerton star.

During last month’s Bridgerton press run, Coughlan revealed on Hits Radio UK that making pop music for the gays was a dream job for her.

“You know when the Real Housewives release pop songs just exclusively for gay men?” Coughlan said for Hits Radio UK. “That’s like my dream job. ‘Cause they don’t even really sing, they just list things. They’re like, ‘Shoes. And private yachts. Caviar. And more shoes.’”

The interview made it rounds throughout the internet before it received the club mix treatment from DJ and producer Ellis Miah. With production credits for RuPaul’s Drag Race‘s “Read U Wrote U” and “Legends,” Miah certainly knows a thing or two about making music for gay men. And his musical talents turned Coughlan dream into reality with this club mix from her quote, one that she’s since shared across social media.

“I had seen that clip go around on TikTok for quite a while,” Miah tells INTO. “I’m a huge fan of hers. I love Derry Girls, I love Bridgerton. And I kept seeing it, and I was like, ‘I need to do something about this.’ So it was kind of in the back of my mind.”

Now, Coughlan’s dream is getting sweeter, as she’s officially releasing the track as her debut single. The song, titled “Shoes…More Shoes” is launching soon. Coughlan took to Instagram to share the news just in time for the end of Pride month.

“In my making music almost exclusively for gay men era,” Coughlan wrote. “Full Track Coming Soon- Presave link in stories. Raising funds for @notaphaseorg & @trevorproject

Not only is Coughlan in her “making music almost exclusively for gay men era,” she’s also showing what allyship looks like. Coughlan’s debut single will raise funds for LGBTQ+ nonprofits Not a Phase and Trevor Project. A fabulous Pride month treat that had other celebs feeling plenty of queer joy.

Heartstopper star Joe Locke simply commented “icon,” while Queer Eye‘s Jonathan Van Ness wrote “Okay we have our playlist for tonite ready.” Wicked star Cynthia Erivo asked if bi girls could “get a piece of this please??” and we’re just hoping for a Coughlan/Erivo remix.

Coughlan’s breakout role as Clare Devlin in Derry Girls put her on the map. However, her role as Penelope Featherington in Bridgerton made her a global star. And as the lead for the show’s season three, the rest of world has fallen in love with Coughlan.

The Irish star can now add singer her resume when “Shoes…More Shoes” drops soon.
