Although releasing music for the past several years, Chappell Roan has blossomed into a bona fide star in the past few months. The speed of the queer singer’s ascendancy has proved something of a shock for her.

Yesterday, she posted two videos to TikTok criticizing some fans over their behavior towards her.

In the first, she says, “’I need you to answer questions – just answer my questions for a second. If you saw a random woman on the street, would you yell at her from your car window?

“’Would you harass her in public? Would you go up to a random lady and say, ‘Can I take a photo with you?’ and she says, ‘No, what the f***?’ – and then you get mad at this random lady?” she said.

“Would you be offended if she says no to your time – because she has her own time?” the “Good Luck, Babe!” singer continued.

“Would you stalk her family? Would you follow her around? Would you try to dissect her life and bully her online? This is a lady you don’t know and she doesn’t know you at all. Would you assume that she’s a good person, assume she’s a bad person? Would you assume everything you read online about her is true?”

“I’m a random b*tch, you’re a random b*tch – just think about that for a second, OK?”

“I don’t care that this crazy type of behavior comes along with the job”

In a second video, Roan said, “I don’t care that abuse and harassment, stalking, whatever, is a normal thing to do to people who are famous or a little famous, whatever. I don’t care that it’s normal. I don’t care that this crazy type of behavior comes along with the job, the career field I’ve chosen.

“That does not make it OK, that doesn’t make it normal. That doesn’t mean that I want it, that doesn’t mean that I like it.”

Roan said she does not want “whatever the f*ck” people think they’re “supposed to be entitled to whenever [they] see a celebrity.”

She also doesn’t “give a f*ck” if people thought it was “selfish” of her “to say no for a photo or for your time or for a hug – that’s not normal – that’s weird.

“It’s weird how people think that you know a person just because you see them online and you listen to the art they make. That’s f*cking weird! I’m allowed to say no to creepy behavior, OK?”

Do not assume this is directed at someone or a specific encounter. This is just my side of the story and my feelings.

“Hard to keep up”

Roan turned off comments for both videos. However, they’ve been reposted on other platforms and prompted thousands of comments.

Back in June, during a concert in Rayleigh, North Carolina, Roan addressed the crowd. She indicated she was still adjusting to her sudden, widespread fame.

“I just want to be honest with the crowd. I feel a little off today, because I think my career is going really fast and it’s hard to keep up,” she said, before adding, “I’m just being honest; I’m having a hard time today.

“I’m not trying to give you a lesser show. Thank you for understanding. This is all I’ve ever wanted.”

She then continued with her show.

Some people have now questioned Roan for appearing to criticize fans for wanting photos with her and occasionally struggling with fame. One viral tweet said, “I kinda think she’s not really cut out to be a pop girlie.”

However, many others supported Roan and said it was right to call out harassment or stalking.

It’s unknown what prompted Roan’s latest videos. She captioned one of them, “’Do not assume this is directed at someone or a specific encounter. This is just my side of the story and my feelings.”

We hope she gets the support and understanding she needs as her fame continues to grow. Her album, The Rise and Fall of A Midwest Princess, released last year, rose to a new peak of number 2 on the Billboard album chart this week, held off the top spot only by Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Society.
