Is an Ariana Grande / Tinashe collab in the works?

Fans are realizing they were robbed of a potential collab between Ariana Grande and Tinashe, but there might be hope for another opportunity.

Ariana and Tinashe are powering through 2024. The former is starring just released a new album called Eternal Sunshine, did a magical performance at this year’s Met Gala, and will soon be starring in the mega musical film adaptation of Wicked as Glinda. The latter is released a viral hit, “Nasty,” ahead of her BB/Ang3l Pt.2 – Quantum Baby era, performed an electric set at this year’s Coachella, and just signed to a new record label. Both acts released music during the first two years of the pandemic and they almost had a collaboration together during this time.

A post from @summerarisza is circulating around the internet from an interview with Tinashe where she discloses how Ariana was almost on her 333 album. However, Ariana was busy fulfilling her personal life (i.e. getting married to ex-husband Dalton Gomez). The post is captioned with “SO DALTON GOMEZ ROBBED US OF TINASHE X ARIANA?? IM FURIOUS,” but thankfully, Tinashe didn’t share the same sentiment in the interview.

“Okay, alright, I’mma keep it 100,” Tinashe begins. “On ‘X,’ I really wanted to get Ariana on it at first and I sent it to her and actually like loved it. Like complimented, like she sent me all these texts, like, ‘Oh my god it’s so great. Like, the melodies are amazing. Like I love the way that you did, like, the verse, hook, or whatever.'”

While Tinashe describes the scenario, she can’t hold in her excitement.

“So, I’m like all hype, like excited about it,” Tinashe said. “Like, ‘Can we please do the collab?’ And it was around, like Christmas time and I think that she’d recently or she was about to get married. She had a lot going on in her personal life. So she was like, she was like, ‘I’m not really working on music right now. At the end of the year, I’m like taking the rest of the year off. So I would love to do the collab. Like, let me know next year if there’s anything that I can like hop on.'”

It wasn’t the response that Tinashe wanted, but she still understood Ariana’s need to for personal time.

“So I was like, ‘Okay. Totally. I get it,'” Tinashe said. “But I did really want Ariana on ‘X.'”

Unsurprisingly, Tinashe wasn’t the only one who wanted Ariana on ‘X.’ While the interview is three years old, fans who are just now getting ahold of this info are mourning the lost opportunity. Needless to say, their anger is channeled towards Gomez.

Not to mention, Ariana frequently writes songs with bestie Victoria Monét. This means, there could’ve been a possibility of Ariana, Tinashe, and Victoria working on the same track.

But there’s still an opportunity for another collab, right? Maybe we need a “Nasty” remix featuring Ari.

Tinashe has song titled “I Can See the Future” and if that’s true, hopefully an Ariana / Tinashe collab is in it.
