JoJo Siwa has dropped her new music video. It arrives three months after she unveiled the video for “Karma”. That song, and its accompanying video, sent out the clear message that Siwa, 21, who first found fame a decade ago on Dance Moms, is all grown up now and living her best queer life.

Siwa’s new image — think lesbian Lady Gaga meets Kiss — intrigued some and earned criticism from others. The internet reaction was shock, bemusement, and “WTF?”

Siwa today releases her Guilty Pleasure EP on all streaming services. It includes “Karma” plus the title track, “Guilty Pleasure”.

The accompanying video, directed by Marc Klasfeled and JoJo herself, finds Siwa again reveling in her liberated, queer self.

Check it out below.

In it, she gets lusty with some adult-size teddy bears at a burlesque-style peep show.

And dances in what looks like a church with some people wearing dog collars and nun’s habits. We’re guessing that ties into the “guilty” theme.

“Freaky era”

Online, the most-liked comment on YouTube appeared to praise Siwa for entering her “freaky era.”

Someone else voiced the thoughts of many by asking: “WHY ARE THE BEARS TOUCHING THEMSELVES.”

Others quipped, “And I thought karma was traumatic” and “Why does she look like a Disney villain…”

On Instagram, someone said, “I feel like she sees herself as the only gay person alive…calm down ma.”

Some others piled in with accusations Siwa was sexualizing kids’ toys in the video (the teddy bears).

On Instagram, Siwa said, “The story I’ve been waiting to tell and to give the visual everyone’s too scared to admit is their guilty pleasure.”

Well, that clears things up, then.

Although it’s become fashionable to bash Siwa, it can’t be easy to transition from child stardom to adult success, while also at the same time navigating coming out and living an authentic life in the public eye.

Besides the criticism, many also praised the new video. In a backhanded sort of way.

“I wish I could say I hate this but her producers worked overtime,” was another well-liked Instagram comment.

New docuseries

Whether you’re a fan of Siwa or not, expect to see plenty more of her in the coming months. Variety revealed earlier this week that she’s working on a docuseries with the creator of Dance Moms, Jeff Collins.

According to a statement from the production company, the “coming-of-age premium docuseries will follow the personal and professional life and career of JoJo Siwa. Cameras will get an in-depth look into her creative process as she charts her course as an adult pop star – evolving from the beloved child star audiences adored on screen.

“JoJo will reveal what it’s like to be one of the world’s most famous 20-year-olds running various businesses, fulfilling a recording deal, and living by herself for the first time. The storylines will emanate from JoJo, told in first person by her and those within her inner circle. For the first time, audiences will get a glimpse of the persona as she reveals who she is in the quiet moments away from the blaring lights of the stage.”
