With festivals stops, a late night TV show performance, and cosigns from Beyoncé and Janet Jackson, TInashe is riding a wave of new success thanks to “Nasty.” While the singer has been around creating R&B pop since her debut album Aquarius, her turn towards being an independent artist put her under the mainstream radar. While she released four albums as an independent artist, the success of “Nasty” has put her back on the mainstream map and she’s steady riding the wave of success.

“For me, I’m riding it until the wheels fall off,” Tinashe explained to Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1. “This is what you do all of this for, you hope for these types of moments.”

Definitely worth it, considering how much her independent artist status has cost her. The singer revealed that she funded majority of her tours and typically loses a couple hundred thousand dollars. Still, Tinashe maintains a laser-like focus and it’s paying off.

“Like I said, this full album’s coming out and people are going to see that this isn’t just a one-off thing,” Tinashe added. “This isn’t a fluke. There’s continued music. There’s music videos coming out. There’s performances. We’re just going to keep going, but at the same time, this moment is also so impactful. Why not just have fun and go hard?”
