The Olympics are arguably the thirstiest event in global culture. Every time the games roll around, the world is transfixed by the outstanding feats of athleticism — and to develop massive crushes on all the beautiful athletes representing their countries.

That goes for folks of all sexualities, but different athletes will catch different communities’ attention. For example, while queer men are drooling over British divers, Italian swimmers, and the Greek water polo team, the sapphics of the world are falling in love with Kim Yeji, a South Korean sharpshooter who took home the silver medal in the 10-meter air pistol event.

Kim caught the internet’s attention with her cool demeanor and slick style, which are especially apparent in a video of her from earlier this year breaking the world record for 25-meter women’s pistol. After calmly taking the record-breaking shot, she makes eye contact with the camera.

Truly, how could you not swoon? Folks are in agreement: it’s hard to imagine someone hotter or cooler than Kim (and she’s even serving as a lesbian awakening for at least one commenter).

Kim isn’t the only South Korean shooter taking over the internet: her teammate Choe Dae-han, who competed in the mens division, also went viral for his shooting style. According to Drag Race star Kim Chi, Choe was serving a “back tooch” that would make his nation proud.

Alas, there’s sad news for anyone planning to slide into Kim’s DMs: she’s apparently married (to a man) and has a young daughter, who gave her the elephant plushie she carries as a good luck charm. It’s adorable, if disappointing for anyone who was hoping for a shot with Kim.

But fear not — this year’s Olympics have no shortage of queer representation. In fact, there are a record 193 out queer competitors this year, the vast majority of them queer women. The Olympics are still prime viewing material, even if Kim isn’t the sapphic icon we were hoping she’d be.
