During the 2024 Paris Olympics, fans will be quick to notice Clare Balding as one of the announcers for the event. However, many have spotted that she doesn’t seem to have her ring on during the games – leading to questions about her relationship. Her wife, Alice Arnold, has come in with some answers.

“I’m amazed how many have noticed Clare Balding is not wearing her wedding ring. Don’t worry. It’s safely at home with me,” she said on X.

Balding was also spotted without her ring at the 2016 Rio Olympics. Her wife reports that they don’t want to wear “irreplaceable” jewelry at such a big event where it could get lost.

The two have a long history together. Balding first came out as a lesbian in 2003, and the two have been together for roughly just as long, as they joined together in a civil partnership in 2006.

“I was worried that if people discovered I was in a relationship with a woman I would get insulted or even that I might be discriminated against when it came to choosing presenters for big events and programmes on TV,” Balding told The Sun recently. A lot has changed in the world since then, thankfully.”

The Balding and Arnold started out as colleagues in 1999 when Arnold worked at the BBC as a newscaster. Balding, at the time, worked as a horse race newscaster then as well.

They got married in 2015 at a public ceremony, and currently live together in London with two cats.
