The Emmys took place in Los Angeles last night. One of the shows to emerge triumphant was The Traitors.

The Peacock show, fronted by Alan Cumming, won the coveted ‘Outstanding Reality Competition Program’ award. It follows Cumming last week winning an Emmy as best reality competition host, ending an eight-year run by RuPaul for Drag Race.

Last night’s win for The Traitors represents only the second time in six years that RuPaul’s Drag Race has not won the ‘Reality Competition Program’ Emmy. Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrrls won in 2022.

After the Traitors team went up to collect their award, The Hollywood Reporter’s senior staff writer Chris Gardner, tweeted that Drag Race rivals walked out of the auditorium. He posted video footage.

However, his version of what happened was quickly questioned by others, including some of the queens in attendance.

This included Plane Jane, who explained, “It was a commercial break and the girls wanted a drink. We all stayed until the end of the ceremony. Take your pseudo journalism elsewhere”

Amanda Tori Meating also weighed in, saying, “It was a commercial break are we allowed to go piss girl 😭”

Many others criticized the original tweet.

Alan Cumming

Queer star Alan Cumming wasn’t able to attend last week’s Creative Arts Emmy ceremony as he was filming in Scotland. However, he could attend last night’s event and gave a speech when accepting the Emmy award. He wore tartan and a medal with a ribbon in the colors of the trans flag.

“We are so grateful because we are a new show — and you guys, you know when you like something, you tend to stick to it, which is a good quality — but we appreciate it all the more,” said the 59-year-old.

He thanked everyone involved with the show, especially for enduring Scotland’s frequently wet weather.

“I also want to thank Scotland, I owe it everything and it’s such a beautiful costar,” Cumming continued.

“I also want to thank Holland, because I don’t think we thank Holland enough, because so many of these shows, like The Traitors, were first made up in Holland, and they obviously have something in the water, so let’s find it, let’s drink it and all of America’s problems will be solved.”

Other Emmy winners included Jodie Foster (for her role in True Detective), über producer and writer Greg Berlanti (the Governor’s Award), and out-actress Jessica Gurning, who scooped a supporting actress award for Baby Reindeer.
