Marvel’s Agatha All Along has at long last released its first trailer, and it confirms unequivocally that this one is 1000% for the gays. Within a cast of queer icons joining a witch coven, Heartstopper’s Joe Locke channels his inner goth with black eyeliner and painted nails.

Agatha All Along is the sequel to the 2020 hit series WandaVision. Near the end of that series, Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn) was revealed (in a sing-song jingle that went “It was Agatha all along”) to be the villain who was sapping power from the Scarlet Witch, Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen). After Wanda overcame her weakened mental state and defeated Agatha, she trapped the evil witch in her sitcom-inspired alternate reality—which is where we left Agatha four years ago.

The trailer promptly shows what Agatha has been up to in the time since.

It seems Agatha is still stuck in syndicated TV hell—this time, going through the motions of a police procedural rather than a family sitcom. Right on cue, Aubrey Plaza (whose role is still under wraps) appears to break her out. Agatha teams up with (as Marvel puts it) “a suspicious goth Teen.”

“Her interest is piqued when he begs her to take him on the legendary Witches’ Road, a magical gauntlet of trials that, if survived, rewards a witch with what they’re missing,” the synopsis continues. “Together, Agatha and this mysterious Teen pull together a desperate coven, and set off down, down, down The Road…”

The goth teen is our boy Joe Locke, whose character name has previously been confirmed as Billy Kaplan. Lastly, the trailer ends with a vision of Broadway royalty, Patti LuPone—who’s giving landlady-with-a-mushroom-dealer in chunky jewelry and velvet shawls.

“What witch in their right mind would join Agatha Harkness’s coven,” LuPone’s character asks (as Billy gasps and clutches his proverbial pearls).

“I’m not looking for right-minded witches,” responds Agatha.

Billy is the reincarnation of Wanda’s son, who appeared as an illusory child in WandaVision and ceased to exist when Wanda ended her illusion. In the comics, Billy becomes the mystic superhero Wiccan and later joins the Young Avengers. On that team, he gets involved with Hulking and the two become one of the most iconic gay couples in comics history. Here’s hoping Agatha All Along lays the groundwork for that plotline!

The first two episodes of Agatha All Along will premiere on Disney+ on September 18, with subsequent episodes releasing weekly.
