The long-awaited third season of Netflix’s Heartstopper is just around the corner, and its stars keep dropping hints that the young adult series is veering more and more adult.

In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Heartstopper star Kit Connor confirmed that Season 3’s maturity level will ramp up alongside its actors.

“We’ve aged up a little bit. It matures a little bit with the audience, and as the characters grow up, you start to see them exploring more adult topics,” Connor said. “It gets a little bit hotter, a little bit raunchier. Yeah, it’s kinda generally just a little bit mature, but still the classic Heartstopper love.”

That statement ought to assuage some fans’ fears that the actors are getting too old for their teenage roles. Connor himself recently captured the internet’s attention for looking particularly grown-up due to his muscular physique (and to be clear, at age 20, looking adult is perfectly normal for Connor), but if the Heartstopper‘s tone is keeping pace with its actors, it shouldn’t pose an issue for the fabulous cast or its fandom.

Meanwhile, Connor’s word choice echoes that of his costar Joe Locke, who also confirmed a “raunchy” season three in an interview on The Today Show earlier this year.

“Every season of our show, we grow up with the characters more,” Locke said. “And this season, it’s definitely a bit raunchier.”

“It’s still Heartstopper,” Locke continued. “But it’s also that we deal with some darker issues. Charlie, my character, he deals with some quite severe mental health issues, which we tackle in the season, which I’m very excited for people to see.”

Connor also shared more about what awaits his character Nick Nelson this season in another interview with IMDb.

“He turns into a right, for lack of a better word, meanie,” Connor joked. “No, he’s the same as he always is. He’s always an absolute angel. I think it’s a very lovely character to play because he’s just kind of lovely and he’s nice.”

“It’s easy to kind of play a nice person sometimes because you can just be nice to people,” Connor continued. “I mean, you know, it’s very simple really. Anyone could do it.”

Season 3 of Heartstopper releases on October 3 on Netflix. Check out a new clip from the upcoming season below.
