Marlon Wayans has a blunt message for those upset by his Pride Month photos

Actor and comedian Marlon Wayans had a blunt message for people upset with his recent Pride Month photo shoot: Please unfollow him.

Wayans, 51, has a trans son. On Friday, he posted photos on his Instagram to mark Pride Month, to show support for his son and the wider queer community.

“Happy PRIDE to all my LGBTQ+ peoples,” Wayans said in the caption of the first post. Shot by photographer Parrish Lewis, Wayans is draped in a Pride flag. Perhaps to clarify it was not a coming out post, he added, “P.S. I’m STRAIGHT… well, according to my child CISGENDER male. I just love and support my peoples.”

“Thank you”

Many people praised the post, saying it was great to see a straight dad supporting their queer child so publicly.

Todrick Hall was among those to comment. He said, “As someone who’s a part of the community and has worked with you closely I just want to say thank you for advocating for the community before and after you knew your child was a part of it! We need more black fathers like you!

“Proud of you for posting this with your chest. Love ya and happy pride 🏳️‍🌈”

Janelle Monáe wrote, “Thank you!! Happy Pride to us!”

However, the post was also flooded with negative comments. Wayans responded by posting more photos from the shoot and doubling down.

“Yeah and just for the HATE MONGERS … I’m posting ANOTHER.

“As a father of a child in the LGBTQ+ community I show my support. Zero f*cks what people think. If i lost you… GOOD! Your hateful ass never loved me in the first place. How can you love anyone when you’re too busy judging. Some of y’all funny. I’m a troll. I’ll post all day.”

“I hope I lose every follower that is ignorant”

Then he got personal with some of his critics, posting a blunt message to one disappointed commentator. Accusing Wayans of failing as a father, the comedian shot back, “I should have my niece f*ck you with her strap on.”

In another posting, Wayans said, “For people to be that homophobic wreaks of repressed feelings/desires,” Wayans said in the caption of his fourth post. “Bruh, don’t live like that. Come on out. Be you. That’s what PRIDE is all about… acceptance.”

His clapbacks continued on X, where he said, “I hope i lose EVERY FOLLOWER that is ignorant, small and full of hate. I don’t f*ck with that type of energy. Let’s just keep 100. I don’t f*ck with you so don’t f*ck with me. Respects #bye”

“The trash took itself out”

Wayans’s posting prompted thousands of comments. We’re pleased to report that many were appreciative of his display of allyship. However, the hatred was real. At one stage, it was reported he’d lost around 10,000 Instagram followers.

We’re not sure how many he had before he posted on Friday, but he currently has 6.8 million followers on Instagram, with many people saying they had begun to follow him for the first time after his display of allyship.

Last November, Wayans talked about being a father to a trans son, Kai, on The Breakfast Club. He admitted he initially found it “very painful” when Kai came out to him. However, he’s since evolved and grown.

“As a parent, I just want my kids to be free. I want them to be free in spirit, free in thought, free to be themselves. … The more you live your truth, the happier your existence.”
