Popstar Charli XCX has gone viral with her appraisal of Kamala Harris following President Joe Biden’s shock announcement yesterday that he was withdrawing from the Presidential race.

Vice President Kamala Harris was quick to announce her intention to run for President. According to The Hill, she has also filed her presidential campaign with the Federal Election Commission.

Biden threw his support behind Harris when he announced he was withdrawing. It seems Harris can also count on Charlie XCX’s support.

The British singer, 31, who has a huge queer following, posted on X, “kamala IS brat”.

The tweet has had almost a quarter of a million likes at the time of writing.

BRAT is the name of Charli’s most recent album. It’s turned the word ‘Brat’ into a vibe and a synonym for uninhibited, messy fun. Fans have declared summer 2024 as ‘Brat summer’ – a suggestion seemingly welcomed by Charli.

BRAT came out on June 7. In a TikTok interview, Charli XCX explained her understanding of the word: “You are just that girl who is a little messy and maybe says dumb things sometimes, who feels herself but then also maybe has a breakdown but parties through it. It is honest, blunt and a little bit volatile. That’s Brat.”

Biden announces end of his campaign

President Biden announced his withdrawal yesterday in a statement posted while he recovers from Covid at his home in Delaware.

“It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President. And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term,” Biden wrote in a statement.

“My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President,” he continued. “And it’s been the best decision I’ve made. Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this.”

Other leading Democrats have come out in quick support for Kamala Harris. This includes Bill and Hillary Clinton, California Governor Gavin Newsom, Senator Elizabeth Waren, and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. She also has the support of major unions, such as the United Auto Workers Union, and the LGBTQ+ advocacy group, Human Rights Campaign.
