A tweet trolling one of Donald Trump’s latest, ridiculous and false claims, has gone viral online.

X user @slater_paul tweeted: “My daughter just texted she’s opted in for the transgender surgery at the high school nurses office. She’s like 5 th in line. It’s going slow because they are using staplers and erasers.”

A hashtag made it clear he was being sarcastic.

The tweet has had over 100k likes in less than 24 hours. It comes after Donald Trump has repeatedly pushed the falsehood that kids are undergoing gender-affirming surgery at school.

As INTO reported last week, Trump first made this claim at a Moms for Liberty event on Friday, August 30.

Any chances that this was a rambling slip of the tongue were laid to rest over the weekend. Trump repeated the line at one of his rallies. On Saturday, in Mosinee, Wisconsin, Trump said, “Can you imagine you’re a parent, and your son leaves the house and you say, ‘Jimmy I love you so much, go have a good day in school’, and your son comes back with a brutal operation. Can you even imagine this? What the hell is wrong with our country?”

CNN fact-checked this claim by Trump when he first made it at the Moms for Liberty gathering. It not only called it false but said Trump’s own campaign team was unable to point to any evidence.

“There is no evidence that US schools have sent children into gender-affirming surgeries without their parents knowing or performed gender-affirming surgeries on site; Trump’s own presidential campaign could not provide a single example of this ever happening. Even in states where gender-affirming surgery is legal for people under age 18, parental consent is required before a minor can undergo such a procedure.”

Evidence-free moral panic

Gender-affirming is not something to be trivialized or joked about, but Slater’s tweet is more of a joke about the utter ridiculousness of Trump’s claim. As someone else quipped in response, “Gosh, I still remember being in high school when the nurse couldn’t give you an aspirin if you had a headache… Times have changed. Sigh, this would be funny if people didn’t believe DonOld’s lies.”

Many others have criticized Trump’s dangerous ramblings.

Debate

Kamala Harris is currently around two points ahead of Donald Trump across opinion polls. Tonight, the two candidates will take part in their first, and possibly only, televised debate. ABC News will air it live from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

In one of its latest, devastating campaign adverts, the Harris campaign highlights how many of those who Trump recruited to the White House between 2016 and 2020 refuse to endorse him for a second term.
