The Democratic National Convention is running this week in Chicago. One of the more unexpected speakers yesterday was Stephanie Grisham, a former aide to Donald Trump.

Grisham served as a White House press secretary during Trump’s four years as President. She also worked as press secretary for Melania Trump between 2020 and 2021.

Grisham has been a vocal critic of the Trumps since she left the White House. She says she quit within hours of the insurrection on January 6, 2021. She’s now supporting Kamala Harris to win in November.

“I wasn’t just a Trump supporter. I was a true believer,” Grisham told the DNC audience. She says she spent holidays at Mar-a-Lago and saw Donald Trump “when the cameras were off.”

“Behind closed doors, Trump mocks his supporters. He calls them ‘basement dwellers’.”

Grisham recounted accompanying Trump on a hospital visit.

“When people were dying in the ICU, he was mad that the cameras were not watching him. He has no empathy, no morals, and no fidelity to the truth.”

Grisham says she never took the podium while working as press secretary at the White House because she “didn’t want to lie.”

“He used to tell me, ‘It doesn’t matter what you say, Stephanie, say it enough and people will believe you,’” Grisham said of Trump yesterday.

Melania

Grisham went on to talk about Melania. Specifically about the events of January 6.

As Grisham did so, a large video screen behind her displayed a text message she sent Melania Trump on that day.

“On Jan. 6, I asked Melania if we can at least tweet that ‘while peaceful protest is the right of every American, there’s no place for lawlessness or violence.’ She replied with one word … ‘no.'”

Grisham said she resigned on January 6, 2021, because she “couldn’t be part of the insanity any longer.” She’s supporting Harris because “I love my country more than my party.”

Melania Trump has been notably absent from her husband’s campaign in recent months, besides a fleeting appearance at the RNC and guest appearances at a couple of Log Cabin Republican fundraisers.

Grisham’s speech has gone viral online.

Laura Loomer

In a statement to NBC News, Grisham said she never thought she would ever speak at a Democratic convention. “But, after seeing firsthand who Donald Trump really is, and the threat he poses to our country, I feel very strongly about speaking out.”

She added: “While I don’t agree with Vice President Harris on everything, I am proud to be supporting her because I know she will defend our freedoms and represent our nation with honesty and integrity.”

Predictably, some MAGA diehards blasted Grisham for her criticism of Trump. Among them was failed GOP candidate Laura Loomer.

Loomer slammed Grisham for appearing to have put on weight since her time at the White House.

“Stephanie Grisham @StephGrisham45 really hit the wall. Another traitor who got rich off Donald Trump and then turned on him on J6. I guess she started eating uncontrollably ever since she quit Trump. She must have gained about 75 pounds since she ‘resigned’.”

This prompted a dignified clapback from Grisham.

“Hi @LauraLoomer – I’ve actually hit menopause, which sucks a ton & yes it’s a weight struggle. Def not rich either – I run a non-profit animal sanctuary & could barely afford the blazer I wore tonight. BUT…I told the truth & plan to keep doing so. #RepublicansForHarris”

Grisham is not the only Republican to say they’re voting for Harris in November. John Giles, the Republican mayor of Mesa, Arizona, has also endorsed Harris and spoke at the DNC yesterday. Former GOP Rep. Adam Kinzinger will speak at the DNC tomorrow, again to show support for Harris.

Donald the Size Queen

Other highlights at the DNC yesterday included Barack and Michelle Obama.

Michelle Obama blasted Donald Trump for the childish way in which he tries to attack opponents.

“Unfortunately, we know what comes next. We know folks are going to do everything they can to distort her truth,” the former First Lady said.

“For years, Donald Trump did everything in his power to try to make people fear us,” Obama said. “His limited and narrow view of the world made him feel threatened by the existence of two hardworking, highly educated, successful people who also happened to be Black.

“By the way — Who’s going to tell him that the job he’s currently seeking might just be one of those “Black jobs?’” she added, to wild applause from the audience.

Husband Barack also mentioned Donald Trump’s childish name-calling… and his obsession with crowd size.
