Ever since Donald Trump announced that he’s chosen Ohio Senator JD Vance as his running mate, the younger man has been subjected to intense public scrutiny.

Much attention has been paid to comments Vance made back in 2016 when he was promoting his best-selling memoir, Hillbilly Elegy. Back then, Vance said, “I’m a ‘never Trump’ guy”, and “I never liked him.”

Since then, Vance has done a U-turn and now sings Trump’s praises. He has consistently tried to distance himself from comments he made eight years ago. Vance has put them down to youthful ignorance. He also says becoming a father shifted his politics.

“I allowed myself to focus so much on the stylistic element of Trump that I completely ignored the way in which he substantively was offering something very different on foreign policy, on trade, on immigration,” Vance told the New York Times in June.

However, many Democrats and even some Republicans find Vance’s conversion to MAGA suspicious.

Vance’s comments about “childless cat ladies” and opposition to abortion have also outraged many. Now, someone has taken Vance’s previous comments about Trump and set them to a banging EDM beat. And it’s been blowing over TikTik and X in recent days.

This has now had 2.6 million views and over a quarter of a million likes.

The couch meme

Vance’s previous comments about Trump are not the only thing that the internet has focussed upon. There is also the rumor about him humping a couch as a horny youngster. This began when an internet user claimed Vance wrote about it in Hillbilly Elegy. This is patently untrue.

However, the Associated Press issued a fact-check stating it as “false”. It later deleted the fact check as it realized it couldn’t prove it false without evidence. The Associated Press deleting its fact-check only amplified the rumor.

Over the weekend, Vance talked to Fox News. He was asked about attacks on his character. Does it hurt his feelings to be depicted as “weird”.

“No, not at all. It doesn’t hurt my feelings,” Vance replied.

“Look, the price of admission — meaning, the price of getting to serve the people of this country — is the Democrats are going to attack us with everything that they have. I think it’s an honor.

“As Harry Truman once said, ‘If you can’t take the heat, stay out of the kitchen,’” he said.

Fellow Ohio lawmaker slams Vance’s “weird” campaign

One of those to call out Vance is a fellow, Ohio lawmaker. Democratic Rep. Greg Landsman took to X yesterday to post a long thread explaining why, “Mr. Vance is running one of the cruelest, most chaotic, and downright ‘weirdest’ campaigns for Vice President we’ve ever seen”

Landsman pointed to Vance’s comments about “childless cat ladies” and people who choose not to have children, his opposition to abortion, and his support for the Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025, which Landsman says goes against the interests of many ordinary, working people in Ohio.
