Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene likes to promote the fact she’s a big believer in exercise and fitness. Before she entered Congress, she used to own her own CrossFit gym.

However, she’s been a critic of the Covid vaccines and her latest advice has prompted disbelief online.

In a post on Sunday, Greene encouraged people to drink raw milk.

“Raw Milk does a body good,” she tweeted. “Make America Healthy Again!”

The former independent, now supporting Donald Trump, has suggested he might play a role in choosing the heads of major federal health agencies if Trump wins.

However, Greene’s encouragement to drink raw milk flies in the face of advice from agencies like the CDC.

It states on its website, “Unpasteurized (raw) milk and any products made from raw milk, including cheese, ice cream, and yogurt, can be contaminated with germs that can cause serious illness, hospitalization, or death. Make the best decision for your health and the health of your family by always choosing pasteurized milk and products made with it.”

It adds, “Most of the nutritional benefits of drinking milk are available from pasteurized milk without the risk of illness that comes with drinking raw milk.”

Raw fruit and vegetable juices are widely believed to offer benefits over highly-processed juices. This might lead some people to think raw milk is also preferable. However, milk comes from living animals. It can contain germs such as Campylobacter, Cryptosporidium, E. coli, Listeria, and Salmonella. It’s also been linked to recent outbreaks of bird flu.

Pasteurization is simply the process by which the milk is gently heated to 161F for 20 seconds to minimize the chance of any germs surviving.

The internet reacts

Greene’s latest tweet quickly attracted a community note on X. Readers included links to several websites advising on the dangers of drinking raw milk.

Thousands also commented.

When not advising people to put their health at risk, Greene spent much of the weekend suggesting Hurricane Helene was a nefarious ploy to swing the election by Democrats.

This also prompted mockery only, prompting Greene to post several tweets insinuating Democrats are controlling the weather. This prompted another community note, reminding people it’s impossible to artificially create hurricanes.
