It’s been coming to light for fans of Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, and Prince that prospective vice president Tim Walz is a huge fan of those artists’ music — and he encourages other people to be, too.

In 2023, Walz passed a bill called HF 1989, named after Taylor Swift’s album and birth year, to ban hidden fees and call for pricing transparency in online ticket sales. He proclaimed two days, June 23 and June 24, as “Taylor Swift Days” in honor of the artist coming to the Twin Cities and spurring a bunch of economic growth.

He’s also made posts decrying not being able to get Taylor Swift tickets alongside his beloved cat Afton, who unfortunately went missing last summer.

Walz even encourages people to shop for vinyl, including advertising that he goes to Minneapolis-based vinyl store Electric Fetus.

As for Beyoncé and Prince, he proclaimed July 20 as Beyoncé day, and he also named a state highway after Prince. He proclaimed April 2019 as Minnesota Music Month to celebrate artists from the state like Lizzo, Bob Dylan, Prince, and The Replacements.

Supporters of Walz are, of course, celebrating him. “We finally have a Swiftie VP to take down Ticketmaster,” said one post on X.

“Kamala’s vp pick being a swiftie might just have a bigger impact on this election than you’d think and in the best way,” wrote another fan. “like t”The amount of other swifties i’ve already seen posting in support of them KEEP IT COMINGGGGG.”
