Cooper Koch is the internet’s latest crush, and it’s clear to see why. Since gracing our screens in Ryan Murphy’s Monsters, he’s become a queer heartthrob thanks to his off-the-charts charisma and top-tier thirst traps. But some people online are taking issue with one of Koch’s

In a viral post with more than 1.4 million views on X (formerly Twitter), a user named Tyler posted a picture of Koch with the caption, “he’s so hot i hate how gay his voice is tho.”

Plenty of people pointed out the obvious: Hating on a fellow gay person for having stereotypically gay traits is textbook internalized homophobia, and hating on one another for things like “gay voice” only holds queer folks back as a community. “You need to make yourself attracted to other gay boys,” one user advised. “Fixating on straight characteristics will work against you in real life.”

Others said that a higher-pitched or more melodious voice like Koch’s is actually a turn-on for them. Everybody has different tastes when it comes to attraction — which makes bashing someone like Koch for a trait he can’t control even more ridiculous.

But despite the backlash, the original poster only doubled down on their point: “it’s not that deep,” they wrote in a follow-up post. “the f*gcent isn’t for everyone guys he’ll be okay i promise.”

It’s not the first time Koch has caught flak for the way he speaks. On a recent episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Koch shared the story of when an acting teacher told him his voice was too gay to book roles — which, of course, turned out to be the opposite of the truth.

“I was so stunned by it at the time,” Koch said. “But you know, I can flip it on and off,” he added before dropping into a deep voice and asking, “What’s good, bro?” Check out the full clip below.
