A gay influencer is catching heat for a controversial post about his boyfriend’s plans for the election.

James Adam Jacobson, an adult content creator, posted a photo of himself and his boyfriend Brent Cope to Instagram. In the picture, Jacobson is wearing a hat in support of the Harris-Walz campaign, while Cope is wearing a red MAGA hat. “We’re boyfriends and I don’t care who he votes for,” Jacobson wrote in the caption.

Having political differences with your parter is one thing. Being okay with them supporting Donald Trump for president — and enabling him to wreak havoc on marginalized folks across America, including the LGBTQ+ community — is entirely another. The internet was quick to give Jacobson a piece of its collective mind, leading him to delete the post entirely (but screenshots are still circulating on social media).

Jacobson also posted to his Instagram story in response to the criticism. “I posted a picture with my boyfriend who’s a republican (I’m a democrat) and am being harassed online with hundreds of hateful comments,” he wrote, alongside another selfie in his Harris-Walz hat. “This type of bullying is why Liam Payne ended his life.”

Why Jacobson dragged recently deceased One Direction singer Liam Payne into things is anyone’s guess, but it added a whole new layer of weirdness to the discourse.

Cope later reposted the photo of him and Jacobson to his Instagram with a controversial caption of his own. “We’re boyfriends. I’m voting for Trump, and after being spammed with hate and nasty messages, including ones that suggested self deletion and hope that he relapses, my boyfriend is far more likely to as well,” Cope wrote. “Thanks for all the help, Democrats.”
