Queer folks across the internet are coming together to share their happily-ever-afters and prove a viral post wrong.

The trend was inspired by a pessimistic post on X, which read, “gay relationships never last…”

Not only is that sentiment a major bummer, but lots of folks who encountered it found it patently untrue. Plenty of people across social media came together to show that gay relationships absolutely do last — and to spread a bit of humor in the process.

By far the most common response to the post was to share real-life fairy tale love stories, with couples showing how they’d stuck together for years, decades, and lifetimes.

But beyond the wholesome responses, several folks jumped at the chance to spin the trend into a joke. That included interpreting homoerotic celebrity friendships as long-term relationships…

…recognizing their favorite albums as lifelong partners…

…and treating brand new relationships as monumental romances.

Some gay icons also got the meme treatment, from RuPaul and Michelle Visage…

…to Lilo & Stitch’s alien power couple Pleakley and Jookiba.

One X user even shouted out their long-term relationship to… *ahem* themself. Self-love is the most important love there is, after all.
