Folks get ready: from the people who brought you the tenderqueer Lockheed-Martin drama comes a new series in 25 parts. If you’re a fan of anti-trans mess, strap in for what is maybe the messiest tale to emerge from the trans Internet in a good while.

Yesterday marked the one-year anniversary of Hamas attack on Israel and the subsequent campaign of genocide in Gaza that followed, and is still following. For some of us, passing that year mark meant taking stock of the enormous loss of life and human rights abuses Palestinians have had to endure for 12 months. For others, it was the perfect time to post anti-trans crap on social media.

Yesterday, a detransitioner currently living in Israel posted one of the more tone-deaf October 7th anniversary posts on X—and she had plenty of competition in that area. Explaining that she stopped wearing a binder last year during the first Hamas attacks—and also referring to that binder as a “barbaric breast squashing device”—the original poster took the opportunity to state that “Stupid identity battles stand no chance of withstanding real wars.”

Which is an interesting statement, considering that there are plenty of queer and trans people who have managed to remain who they are even in the face of devastating acts of war and genocide. But that’s not even the issue here.

The poster—who no sooner detransitioned last year than started regurgitating all the anti-trans talking points we’re used to hearing from TERFs—is now facing widespread criticism not only for her October 7th post, but for seeming to use her sudden Zionist awakening as a gimmick to advance her career.

It’s important to explain at this point that trans folks aren’t going out of their way to hate on detransitioners. Many folks who identify as detrans do so as a safety precaution, and as many as 62% go on to retransition once they’re in safer circumstances. Even detransitioners who don’t retransition are not a threat or a problem in the trans community—unless, of course, they decide to make an entire career out of spreading anti-trans hate and false science. Which is precisely what this poster seems to be doing, via posts that refer to transness as a “cult” and likening trans kids seeking gender-affirming care to the castrati of the 16th century.

Because per screenshots of this poster’s since-deleted Instagram account, she didn’t just undergo detransition a year ago. Her politics also managed to do a complete 180.

Before October 7th, not only did this poster identify as trans, she identified as anti-Zionist, to the point of meeting with thee man Norman Finkelstein himself! Obviously people can change, and complete reversals of belief and identity have happened before in the wake of crisis. But something about this total rejection of past identity feels…well…like a grift.

We live in strange times, and snake oil salesmen are everywhere.

Because if it wasn’t a grift, why would this person be posting things like this?

Or this…

Life is exhausting and I hate it here, but at least we have no shortage of weird drama.
