Taylor Swift publicly stated yesterday that she would be voting for Kamala Harris this November. The singer announced her intention via an Instagram post just minutes after the debate between Harris and GOP nominee Donald Trump.

Swift urged people to do their own research and decide who to vote for. She also encouraged first-time voters to register to vote. She spoke about the threat of AI images and of becoming aware that Donald Trump recently posted fake images of her appearing to endorse him.

“It really conjured up my fears around AI, and the dangers of spreading misinformation. It brought me to the conclusion that I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter. The simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth,” Swift said.

“I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election,” she continued.

“I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them. I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos. I was so heartened and impressed by her selection of running mate @timwalz, who has been standing up for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman’s right to her own body for decades.”

Swift ended her post by signing off: “With love and hope, Taylor Swift”, adding “
Childless Cat Lady.”

This is a pop at Trump’s running-mate, JD Vance. After it was announced he was joining Trump’s ticket, old interview comments Vance made about the Democratic party being run by “miserable” childless cat ladies went viral. Vance’s anti-abortion stance has also come under fire.

Tim Walz learns live on air about Swift’s endorsement

At the time of writing, Swift’s Instagram post prompted almost 7 million likes. Among those to like the post were Oprah Winfrey, Jennifer Aniston, Lady Gaga, Joel Kim Booster, Antoni Porowski, Dan Levy, Blake Lively, Selena Gomez and Reese Witherspoon. Swift disabled comments.

Here’s a clip of Tim Walz hearing of Swift’s endorsement live on air.

And here’s Trump hearing about it after the debate.

Elon Musk

One person seemingly not impressed was X and SpaceX boss Elon Musk.

Musk has publicly endorsed Donald Trump. He has also talked about potentially serving a role in the government if Trump wins re-election.

Musk honed in on Swift’s status as a “Childless cat lady” and posted, “Fine Taylor … you win … I will give you a child and guard your cats with my life.”

Musk’s pithy response appears to have gone down well with many of his followers, prompting over 130k likes. However, others were just creeped out.

“They’re eating dogs!”

Most political observers believe Harris came off as the better candidate in last night’s debate and succeeded in needling Trump. The former President’s low point was his insistence that illegal immigrants are eating people’s pets in Springfield, Ohio. ABC News co-anchor David Muir fact-checked this. “We checked with the city manager,” Muir said. The manager reported no such credible evidence for such a claim.
